Finally, Spring is making it’s mark!
If you feel like me, this winter has definitely been too long! I am so ready for renewal!
I have started cleaning out my closets, took 5 boxes of books to the library that I probably won’t miss, and have started a super-clean diet.
Have you felt the urge to lighten your load? Whether you are letting go of material ballast, or shedding some pounds, it just feels great. It means you are aligned with the energy of Spring!
On the other hand, feeling a bit cranky, irritable, indecisive, and have a hard time moving forward with ideas or projects are signs that some winter sludge is stuck, and it’s time to do some spring cleaning for your body, mind and soul.
If we don’t purposely purify our systems as spring arrives, the body may naturally begin cleansing itself from toxic build-up by releasing a cold. Some people may also suffer with odd aches and pains and don’t know why. This is the body’s way of letting you know that there are toxins building up that want to be released.
Every tradition or religion has a way of clearing our inner closet: the Catholics have lent, and fast prior to Easter. Yogis practice austerity with their diets, and Shamans fast during vision quests.
Especially fascinating is that Traditional Chinese Medicine relates spring to the Liver and Gallbladder meridians. Reducing animal fats and proteins, as well as fasting support the healing and renewal of these organs. Typically, when these meridians are not working optimally, we get moody, crabby, depressed, or outright angry.
We can aid the body through this natural cleansing process by eating lightly prepared meals (steamed, sautéed, blanched and raw foods), less food overall, eliminating animal products for a specific period of time, or fasting from food entirely. The springtime, I believe, is the best time of year to go “vegan” or “vegetarian” for a little while.
Detoxifying typically helps boost energy, reduce allergies and hormonal imbalances, improves digestion, clears sinuses, normalizes blood pressure, fewer moods swings, sharper mental ability, improved sleep, healthier skin and much more.
